With a long standing tradition of environmental awareness, the Lungarotti Group has been chosen by the italian Ministry of Agriculture to participate in a pilot biomass project who's goal is to produce energy from the combustion of waste material of the pruning process. In the viticultural sector this project is currently on the forefront with regards to energy savings and environmental friendliness.
The Lungarotti Group has always had a keen eye for innovation and a penchant for leading edge agricultural policies. As a result of this ingrained innovative thrust the group has set up an active collaboration with the University of Perugia to develop a 3 year biomass project, at the end of which the company hopes to have also paved a way towards cleaner energy management that others may follow.
Lungarotti is almost self-sufficient in grape production with 250 ha (almost 600 acres) of owned vineyards in Torgiano and 20 ha (almost 50 acres) in Montefalco, where a new state of the art gravity winery has been opened few years ago, the second such Lungarotti establishment with DOCG certification. In the vineyards the most advanced viticultural techniques are employed, with vine densities and row spacings optimized so as to guarantee the highest possible grape quality.
